Omega-3 Lemon – for heart and brain
Our grandparents and great grandparents were very keen to give their children spoonfuls of cod liver oil. The fishy taste may be familiar to many. This may be one reason why cod liver oil went out of fashion. But this is now a thing of the past. Omega-3 Lemon from Unimedica is a cod oil in premium quality from the Arctic waters of Norway. The taste of the oil is improved with a natural fresh lemon flavouring so that the fishy smell is less intrusive.
Omega-3 Lemon can be taken on its own or added to salads and other cold food. The essential fatty acids DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) contained in cod liver oil contribute to normal heart function at a daily dose of 250 mg. DHA at the same intake also contributes to normal brain function.
A rich oil with valuable nutrients
Our Omega-3 Lemon cod liver oil is rich in the polyunsaturated essential omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA. Both fatty acids are mainly found in animal sources such as sea fish, although they are produced by algae. The oil naturally contains vitamins A (retinol), E (tocopherol) and D3 (cholecalciferol).
Vitamin A and vitamin D contribute to the normal function of the immune system and play a role in cell specialisation and division, whereas vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
Why cod liver oil?
Essential fatty acids must be absorbed from our food because the body cannot make them itself. They play an important role in various bodily processes and are essential to transport and make available the fat-soluble vitamins like A, E and D. Cod liver oil has the advantage that it combines both essential vitamins and essential fatty acids.
Only a few foods contain pure omega-3 fatty acids. Plant sources often contain above all omega-6 fatty acids. They must first be transformed in the body into DHA and EPA. At this stage the enzymes of omega-3 and omega-6 compete, which can lead to differing effects. Cod liver oil contains only omega-3 – in a biologically available form.
Which other foods contain omega-3 fatty acids?
Alternative natural sources of omega 3 fatty acids are flaxseed oil and flaxseed, hemp seeds and hemp oil, walnut oil and walnuts, olive oil and olives, fatty sea fish like herring, salmon or tuna, as well as soybeans.
A valuable supplementation to our daily food
Omega-3 Lemon from Unimedica expands the variety of omega-3 sources in our daily food with a premium oil. Norwegian cod liver oil is regarded as a reliable and especially high quality source of the essential fatty acids DHA and EPA. The fat-soluble vitamins A, E and D3 and the essential fatty acids support each other for optimal provision of these key nutrients.
The magic of the far north
The premium raw ingredient for our Omega-3 lemon oil comes from a fish processing company in northern Norway. The oil is exclusively extracted from the fresh liver of Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua), caught using sustainable methods by local fisheries along the coast of northern Norway. The oil is processed under carefully controlled conditions, especially to minimise oxidation, leading to an excellent sensory quality.
Spectrum of action*
EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) contribute to normal function of the heart from a daily dose of 250 mg.
DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and the maintenance of normal vision from a daily dose of 250 mg.
Vitamin A (retinol) contributes to normal iron metabolism, maintenance of normal mucous membranes and skin, maintenance of normal vision, and normal function of the immune system. It also has a role in the process of cell specialisation.
Vitamin D (cholecalciferol) contributes to normal absorption/utilisation of calcium and phosphorus, normal blood calcium levels, maintenance of normal bones and teeth, maintenance of normal muscle function, normal functioning of the immune system and has a role in the process of cell division.
Vitamin E (tocopherol) contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
